The FIH Males’s Hockey World Cup 2023 kicks off on Friday with a match between Argentina and South Africa at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. The curtain raiser will kick off at 1 PM IST. In the meantime, hosts India will play their first sport on the exact same day towards Spain at 7 PM IST. The match will happen at Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, Rourkela — the one other venue for the showpiece occasion. In complete, 16 groups participate within the Hockey World Cup. They’re divided into 4 teams — Pool A, Pool B, Pool C and Pool D — having four-team every. India are in Pool D alongside England, Spain and Wales. The ultimate match of the event will happen on January 29.
It’s price noting that India hosts the event for the second consecutive version. It had hosted the World Cup again in 2018 that was held in Bhubaneswar. The version noticed Belgium beating Netherlands within the closing whereas Australia took residence the bronze.
What’s the format?
Every staff will play three matches in its pool and the topper will get a direct entry to the quarterfinal. In the meantime, the second and third groups of all 4 swimming pools will battle it out within the crossovers from the place the remaining 4 groups will enter into the quarter-finals.
